May 9, 2024

In this project KCI’s focus is on monitoring and controlling the distribution of potable water to both local and remote communities, ensuring efficient and reliable supply.

PROJECT

  1. SCADA – Utilizing FactoryTalk server with distributed clients, centrally managed from a control room. This SCADA system provides real-time oversight of the water distribution process, allowing operators to make informed decisions and respond to changes promptly.
  2. PRODUCTS & HMI – the system employs Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLCs configured in a redundant setup, along with CompactLogix PLCs deployed at various points within the infrastructure. These PLCs serve as the backbone of the control system, executing programmed tasks and coordinating operations seamlessly. Local operator interfaces are provided through Allen Bradley PanelView Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), enabling operators to monitor and control the process directly from the field. Optimization of the primary distribution line is achieved through the use of Allen Bradley PowerFlex 6000T medium voltage Variable Speed Drives (VSDs). These VSDs, with a capacity of 2.5MW and operating at 6.6kV, enable precise control of flow rate and operating pressure, enhancing efficiency and reducing energy consumption.
  3. NETWORK – To ensure robust communication across the distribution network, radio networks are established using Cambium Microwave and Elpro UHF technologies, facilitating reliable data transmission and control signals.
  4. FIELD INSTRUMENTS – Leading brands are utilized for level, pressure, flow, vibration, and temperature measurements, ensuring accurate data collection and control.

CONCLUSION

Overall, KCI’s integrated solution incorporates advanced control technologies, robust communication infrastructure, and precise instrumentation to ensure the efficient and reliable distribution of potable water to communities, both local and remote. All integration work (design, manufacture, installation and commissioning) was carried out using in house/country skills.
