This case study spans a 6-year period and involves the design and construction of a comprehensive water and wastewater control system. The primary objective is to efficiently manage the distribution of potable water to both local and remote communities while also overseeing the treatment and disposal of wastewater.
PROJECT
- SCADA – The system is powered by a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, specifically utilizing Rockwell Software’s FactoryTalk server along with distributed clients. This SCADA setup allows for real-time monitoring and control of various aspects of the water and wastewater infrastructure.
- PRODUCTS – Key components of the control system include Integrated Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and associated control systems. These systems employ Allen Bradley’s PowerFlex 750 range of Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), CompactLogix, and Micro800 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), along with PanelViews for operator interfaces.
- RADIO NETWORKS – To ensure robust communication across the infrastructure, radio networks are implemented. These networks utilize Cambium Microwave and Elpro UHF technologies, supported by towers strategically placed as needed to ensure optimal coverage and connectivity.
CONCLUSION
Overall, KCI’s integrated solution incorporates advanced control and monitoring technologies to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the water and wastewater management system, catering to the needs of both local and remote communities. All integration work (design, manufacture, installation and commissioning) was carried out using in house/country skills.
